Taking Ways of Seeing into the context of virtual art - Editorial project featuring a number of artists who work at the forefront of interactive virtual art, changing the way we interact and experience image.
Virtually seeing is a response to the seminal writings of John Berger’s Ways of Seeing. Berger covers the impact of the reproduction of image. He mentions how we would once have to go to a church or gallery to see art, whereas now (the 70s) there was the option to see art on a TV and in other forms of accessible media.
But 40 years later, we live in a very different time. With virtual and augmented reality becoming more and more part of our lives, the way we see and interact with image has changed massively. This project explores how different artists are harnessing virtual technology to build new relationships with art, as well as creating digital spaces for us to explore them in.
